Splayed tip

Alternative label

Cut and splayed tip (of a lock); Grappling-hook tip

Scope note

A lock tip variation in which the tapered end of a lock is cut lengthways one or more times after being passed through a slit and the resulting strips placed in different directions. This provides additional resistance to the lock being pulled back through the slit, especially if adhesive is applied.
